Timber

We have explored the design opportunities of using mass timber, a low-carbon and renewable alternative to conventional structural materials. Cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels and glulam beams and columns at the new Frederic Church Center in Hudson, NY and University of Washington Tacoma’s Milgard Hall achieve decarbonization goals while honoring its indigenous, industrial, cultural, and natural significance to each context. At Harvard Medical School, our glazed mass timber skylight roof encloses a former courtyard into a collaboration space.
