Dia SoHo - ARO Architecture Research Office

ARO is overseeing the upgrade and expansion of Dia Art Foundation’s locations in New York City and Beacon, as part of a comprehensive, multi-year plan to strengthen Dia’s mission, program and resources. The Dia SoHo projects include a 2,500 SF gallery space at 77 Wooster Street that support artist projects, collection displays, and exhibitions and the revitalization of Walter De Maria’s The New York Earth Room and The Broken Kilometer.

Historically one of Dia’s original galleries in New York City, the space serves as a new gallery and critical hub for two adjacent artist sites.

The galleries housing The Broken Kilometer and The New York Earth Room, which were installed in 1977 and 1979 respectively, have been upgraded with new infrastructure and HVAC systems and a new reading room has been established adjacent to The New York Earth Room. Open only seasonally (from September to June) for more than four decades, both sites will now be able to remain open year-round.
