Olana Visitor Center

The Olana Center is a new facility that orients visitors to the Olana State Historic Site. Located near Hudson, NY, Olana was the home, studio, farm, and culminating masterpiece of Frederic Edwin Church, the preeminent artist of the Hudson River School of landscape painting.

The program includes a 4,500 SF building and associated parking, located in a wooded area along the entry drive, concealed from the viewshed of the main house. With ticketing, exhibition areas, a café, a multipurpose room and restrooms, as well as outdoor terraces and paths that connect to the entire site, The Olana Center is an interpretive threshold to Church’s vision of Olana as a work of art uniting nature and culture.

The project is an element of landscape architects Nelson Byrd Woltz (NBW)’s award-winning Strategic Landscape Design Plan for the entire two-hundred-and-fifty-acre site.
