Cooper Hewitt Collections Gallery

Building on the success of four exhibitions for the Cooper Hewitt, National Design Museum, ARO designed the Nancy and Edwin Marks Collection Gallery, a new permanent collections space.

The existing ground floor music room of the historic Carnegie Mansion was restored to its original condition, with new lighting and a new flexible display system respectful of the space’s domestic scale and detail.¬†Different configurations of the seven glass and metal cases would accommodate future exhibits, depending on the number, type and size of objects.

The design created a minimal, elegant atmosphere for displaying the variety of objects from this diverse collection.

ARO also designed the first exhibition for the space, “Treasures from the Collection.”
